Cynthia Carr

Cynthia Carr is the author of Fire in the Belly: The Life and Times of David Wojnarowicz, winner of a Lambda Literary Award and a finalist for the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize; Our Town: A Heartland Lynching, a Haunted Town, and the Hidden History of White America; and On Edge: Performance at the End of the Twentieth Century. She chronicled the work of contemporary artists as a Village Voice staff writer for two decades, and her work has appeared in ArtforumThe New York Times, and elsewhere. She was awarded a Guggenheim in 2007. As a Leon Levy fellow she worked on a biography of the transgender actress Candy Darling, published by Flatiron Books.
